Agency of Movement (Shells of What's Left Behind), 2020

Back in early months of 2020, I was required to change my plans due to the pandemic. We were all forced to limit travel and movement. I was in the United States, visiting family, when I was suddenly unable to return home to Cameroon, where my spouse was working at the time. Although, it was my final thesis semester of my MFA and I was far from my studio and art supplies, I found a way to create place while I was out of place. I was unable to travel not unlike these shells of abandoned airplanes and the shells of my luggage.

The shells of luggage were made with my old moving boxes and papier mache and the insides were made with plaster. I photographed them in situ then made large prints to tell the story.

Materials: Cardboard, papier mache, plaster

Location: The Boneyard, Greybull, WY and Yellowstone Regional Airport, Cody, WY (Closed April, 2020)
